Everglades Airboat Tour at Sawgrass Recreational Park
Feel the excitement and learn the history of Florida's most remarkable treasure - the beautiful subtropics known as the Everglades. As one of the rare subtropical ecosystems, the Everglades hold spectacular mysteries. Renew your spirit as you glide on an exhilarating airboat ride through the "river of grass". At speeds up to 35 mph you can get up close and personal with native wildlife, many of whom are endangered in this fragile environment. You can also take a walk on the wild side by visiting the Park's Exhibit Area. The reptile exhibit features dozens of species both native and exotic to Florida. Be sure to look up Cannibal, the 1000 pound alligator who is the star of the show. You will journey along the Intracoastal Waterway, which snakes around the fingers of the "Venice Isles of America." You will pass lively waterfront cafes, villas of the rich and famous, and view magnificent and colorful architecture. It's hard to believe that at one time, this city was a trading post settlement with an Indian camp not far away. Although few of these historic sites remain, there is still one that is quite unchanged, the "New River."
